CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Chillicothe voters rejected both income tax proposals on Tuesday’s ballot, turning down a school tax for the second time this year and a city tax for street repairs, according to unofficial results from the Ross County Board of Elections.
The Chillicothe City School District’s proposed 0.75% earned income tax failed with 4,178 votes against and 3,244 for, with all 24 precincts in the district reporting. The five-year tax would have funded current expenses. Voters had rejected the same request in May by 61 votes.
Interim Superintendent Kathy Payne said in a statement the district will review its options to find a path forward.
The city’s proposed 0.2% income tax, earmarked for street paving, repairs and improvements, failed 4,258 to 3,191 across the city’s 22 precincts.
Elsewhere in Ross County, Paint Valley Local School District voters renewed their levy 1,000 to 936, a renewal that adds no new tax. Bainbridge village voters renewed a 2-mill levy, 120 to 88, and a 2.9-mill levy, 116 to 91. A Miami Trace Local School District renewal failed in the single Ross County precinct it covers, 5 votes to 2; that district’s outcome rests on its Fayette County vote.
Across Ross County, 24,858 ballots were cast from 45,266 registered voters, a turnout of 54.9%, according to the Ohio Secretary of State‘s office. All results are unofficial until certified.
