Chillicothe Farmers Market sets Nov. 7 grand opening for new Yoctangee Park pavilion

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Farmers Market will celebrate the grand opening of its new home — a pavilion in Yoctangee Park in downtown Chillicothe — on Saturday, Nov. 7, market organizers announced.

Doors open at 9 a.m. and the market will run until noon. Early shoppers will be eligible for special grand opening giveaways, according to the announcement.

The move brings the market back downtown, a few hundred yards from where it began in 1992 or 1993 with four or five vendors on a triangular lot at the corner of Riverside, Water and Paint streets. After a year there, the market moved to what was then a Kmart parking lot — now the Lowe’s lot — and later to Western Avenue, where it has operated since.

The new pavilion will be a year-round, climate-controlled venue next to the amphitheater and the new armory, steps from downtown. Organizers said the space could grow the market from about 30 vendors to 50 or 60.

Vendors will offer fresh fruits and vegetables, live music, and handcrafted artisan goods.
