CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Pickaway County voters rejected the county park district’s tax levy Tuesday, defeating a renewal and increase 11,868 votes to 10,065 in unofficial results from the Pickaway County Board of Elections, with all 46 precincts reporting.
The issue would have renewed the district’s 0.5-mill levy and added 0.25 mill, for a total of 0.75 mill for 10 years beginning in 2027, according to the ballot language certified by the board of elections. The county auditor estimated the levy would collect $1,466,613 a year — about $20 a year for each $100,000 of a property’s market value — to maintain existing park facilities, develop new trails and parks, and help cities, villages and townships in the county improve their parks and trails.
The margin surpassed the number of ballots still outstanding: the Ohio Secretary of State‘s office reported 427 provisional ballots and 15 absentee ballots yet to be counted in the county. Results remain unofficial until certified.
In other Pickaway County issues, township levies passed in Monroe, Walnut and Williamsport townships and failed in Deercreek Township, and fire and ambulance levies passed in the Sterling and Tri-County districts, according to unofficial results.
