WAVERLY, Ohio — The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public meeting in Waverly next month on state water permits for the planned PORTS Technology Campus south of Piketon, a project that would affect 14 streams and 18 wetlands in the Lower Scioto River watershed.
The meeting is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Pike County YMCA, 400 Pride Drive in Waverly. Ohio EPA will take oral and written comments at the meeting, and written comments will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Nov. 12.
The application, filed by Portsmouth DevCo, LLC, seeks a Section 401 water quality certification and a Level 2 isolated wetland permit for the campus, planned at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Portsmouth Site in Pike County. Ohio EPA lists two related PORTS Technology Campus applications from the company in its public notice system.
The state permits are one part of a much larger build-out at the site. The campus is the SB Energy development at the center of a special study agreement PJM Interconnection filed with federal energy regulators this month, covering about 9,570 megawatts of additional data center demand and more than 10,000 megawatts of proposed new generation tied to the project.
Ohio EPA will decide on the certification and permit after the comment period closes.
