Ohio Attorney General Seeks to Lead Class-Action Lawsuit Against Roblox

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The office of Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson is asking a federal court to name the state as lead plaintiff in a securities class-action lawsuit accusing Roblox Corporation of misleading investors about child-safety protections on its platform.
“Roblox lied to investors and failed to protect children from online predators,” Wilson said in a statement. “We’re taking action to recover millions in lost pension funds and to make it clear that tech companies must be held accountable when they put kids in harm’s way.”

The Attorney General’s Office filed a motion Friday seeking the lead-plaintiff role on behalf of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) and the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS).

The lawsuit alleges that Roblox, headquartered in San Mateo, California, portrayed its platform as safe for children while failing to implement adequate protections against online predators, and that the alleged deception contributed to billions of dollars in investor losses, including a combined $21.5 million for OPERS and STRS from October 2024 through April 2026, according to the Attorney General’s Office.

The lawsuit contends that while marketing itself as a family-friendly platform, Roblox operated with insufficient safety features that left children vulnerable to predators and inappropriate content on the site.

According to the lawsuit, the company’s exposure became apparent after regulatory pressure led Roblox to roll out mandatory age verification and limits on communication between adults and minors starting in late 2025. On April 30, 2026, Roblox reported first-quarter results showing user growth had slowed following the rollout and cut its full-year bookings guidance by roughly $1 billion. Roblox shares fell about 18% following the disclosure, wiping out an estimated $6 billion to $6.7 billion in market value, according to the lawsuit and market data reported at the time.

The case is pending before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. In addition to Roblox, the lawsuit names three current and former company executives as defendants: CEO David Baszucki, Chief Financial Officer Naveen Chopra, and former Chief Financial Officer Michael Guthrie, who resigned from the company in mid-2025.
