OVI Checkpoint Planned for US-50 in Ross County Tonight

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol, working with the Chillicothe Police Department, Ross County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio Department of Transportation, will conduct an OVI checkpoint on US-50 in Ross County tonight.

The checkpoint is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is being funded through federal grant money.

Authorities say the operation is intended to deter and intercept impaired drivers before they can put other motorists at risk.

In addition to the checkpoint, law enforcement agencies will conduct nearby saturation patrols targeting impaired driving. Officials say the combined enforcement effort is aimed at reducing injury and fatal crashes involving impaired drivers.

Motorists who plan to consume alcohol are being urged to arrange a designated driver or make other transportation arrangements before drinking.

Law enforcement officials are reminding drivers that getting behind the wheel while impaired can have consequences that extend far beyond an arrest — potentially costing someone their life.
