COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 39-year-old Columbus man has been sentenced to nearly 27 years in federal prison after being convicted of drug trafficking and firearms offenses stemming from an investigation into bulk narcotics transported from California to Polaris Fashion Place.
Terrance Colvin was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court to 322 months — nearly 27 years — in prison after being convicted at trial in February on six counts involving drug and gun crimes.
According to court documents and trial testimony, the case began in May 2024 when local Homeland Security Investigations agents were notified by HSI Albuquerque that New Mexico State Police had stopped a commercial car hauler.
One of the vehicles on the carrier was scheduled for delivery to Polaris Fashion Place in Delaware County. Investigators found two hidden compartments in the vehicle containing approximately 21 kilograms of methamphetamine and six kilograms of cocaine, or about 27 kilograms of narcotics in total.
Federal and local authorities then arranged for a controlled delivery of the vehicle to the Polaris mall parking lot.
Colvin traveled to Polaris Fashion Place by Uber to retrieve the vehicle after it was delivered. He then drove it to his apartment at the 801 Polaris Apartments, where he parked in a private garage next to a 2015 Cadillac Escalade.
Investigators said Colvin accessed the vehicle’s hidden compartments and transferred the narcotics — most of which had been replaced by law enforcement with sham narcotics — into a duffel bag before officers arrested him.
A subsequent search of Colvin’s apartment uncovered additional bulk quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine, authorities said.
Agents also seized three loaded firearms.
Because Colvin is a previously convicted felon, federal law prohibits him from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Court records show Colvin has a criminal history that includes narcotics and weapons-related offenses, as well as convictions or arrests involving kidnapping, receiving stolen property, driving under the influence, obstructing justice and disorderly conduct.
