PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Multiple first-responder agencies will conduct an annual active-threat training exercise at East Portsmouth Elementary School on Wednesday, Oct. 28, and the public should not be alarmed by the emergency presence at the school that day, according to the Portsmouth Police Department.
The training is being held by the school in partnership with the Portsmouth Police Department, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, the Portsmouth Fire Department and the New Boston Police Department, according to the department.
All public roadways leading to and around East Portsmouth Elementary School will remain open during the training, according to the department. The school itself will be closed to all outside traffic except for those involved in the training, the department said.
The exercise is for East Portsmouth Elementary School staff only, and no students will be in attendance that day, according to the department.
The training will be concluded by 2 p.m., when parent-teacher conferences are scheduled to begin, according to the department.
“Do not be alarmed if you see multiple First Responder’s at the school on this date,” the department said.
