RIPLEY, Ohio — A failed piece of Duke Energy equipment caused a power outage in the village, and residents who have their service back should expect to lose it again on Monday while crews install a replacement, village officials said.

In a statement posted Sunday afternoon, Mayor Travis Arnett said the outage was traced to a failure in an A-phase voltage regulator. Duke Energy crews were working to put a temporary jumper in place to bypass the damaged unit and restore service to everyone affected.

A replacement regulator is expected to arrive Monday, Oct. 19, according to the village. Swapping the units will require crews to cut power again to some customers, and the work is expected to take several hours once it begins. Duke Energy had not given the village a start time or an estimated completion time as of Sunday’s update.

Arnett asked residents to plan ahead for Monday’s interruption and said the village will share additional updates as Duke Energy provides them.
