WAVERLY, Ohio — Families in Pike County can get hands-on help installing a child’s car seat — and, if they qualify, a seat at no cost — through classes the Pike County General Health District is holding twice each month.
The health district said the sessions are led by a nationally certified child passenger safety technician and meet at its office at 116 S. Market St. in Waverly, at 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month and at 2 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday.
Instruction walks parents and caregivers through choosing a seat and using it correctly as a child moves from rear-facing seats to forward-facing seats and then to boosters, the district said.
Under the Ohio Buckles Buckeyes program, the district said, free convertible, forward-facing and booster seats are available to Pike County families who meet Medicaid or WIC income guidelines and have a child weighing less than 65 pounds. A technician works with each family on proper installation.
Space is limited, the district said. To register, call the health district at 740-947-7721.
