CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — U.S. Rep. Dave Taylor sat down with Ohio trucking executives Wednesday at Chillicothe’s Kenworth plant to hear how economic pressure and safety rules are hitting the freight industry.
The roundtable with the Ohio Trucking Association covered regulatory costs, workforce shortages, and federal efforts around commercial driver safety and infrastructure across southern and central Ohio, Taylor’s office said.
“America’s trucking industry moves 11 billion tons of goods more than 300 billion miles each year, and serves as the backbone of our economy,” Taylor said at the meeting. “I was grateful to hear directly from Ohio’s trucking professionals today about the challenges they’re facing on the road and how I can best support them in Congress.”
Taylor, a first-term congressman representing Ohio’s 2nd District, sits on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and started the bipartisan Congressional Trucking Caucus. Industry executives at the table pressed for keeping commercial driver’s license safety standards strong while backing more infrastructure investment in the region, according to the discussion.
Before Congress, Taylor worked as a Clermont County assistant prosecutor and ran his family’s concrete business. His district covers 15 counties, including Ross, Pickaway, Jackson and Scioto.
