GRAFTON, Ohio — A lightning strike at Grafton Correctional Institution sent 16 incarcerated individuals to an outside hospital Tuesday evening, including one person who was transported by helicopter, according to an update from the facility.
Initial reports indicate the lightning strike occurred while incarcerated individuals were returning from the evening meal.
Sixteen individuals are being transported to an outside hospital for treatment. One of those individuals was life-flighted, according to officials.
There have been no reported deaths.
Officials said they are continuing to assess and monitor the situation.
