LOGAN, Ohio — A 57-year-old man wounded in an Oct. 2 shootout with Hocking County sheriff’s deputies was booked into jail Thursday after being released from a Columbus hospital, authorities said.
Bobby L. Fox was taken into custody at Grant Medical Center on Oct. 8 and transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail in Nelsonville, where he awaits an initial appearance before Hocking County Municipal Judge Frederick T. Moses, according to the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies went to Fox’s home on State Route 180 near Laurelville at about 9:33 a.m. Oct. 2 to serve a felony warrant charging him with felonious assault, Sheriff Lanny E. North said. Fox ignored repeated orders to come to the door even though his vehicles were sitting in the driveway, North said.
When deputies entered the home, Fox came out of a room and opened fire on them, using the room for cover, according to North. Deputies returned fire, wounding Fox. No deputies were hurt.
Deputies gave Fox first aid until Hocking County EMS arrived. He was taken to Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan, then transferred to Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
Additional charges against Fox are pending review by the Hocking County Prosecutor’s Office. The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
The sheriff’s office thanked Hocking County EMS, Hocking County 911, the Hocking County Humane Society, Ohio BCI and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for their help.
Fox, like anyone accused of a crime, is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
