27 Stolen Firearms Recovered After Multi-County Pursuit Involving Stolen Vehicle

ASHLAND, Ohio — Two Columbus residents were arrested after a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended with troopers recovering 27 stolen firearms and a stolen taser, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The incident began around 1:41 a.m. Aug. 3 when troopers attempted to stop a 2013 Hyundai Elantra traveling southbound on Interstate 71 in Ashland County.

Troopers said the vehicle was being driven for distracted driving and speed violations. The driver failed to stop, prompting a pursuit.

Troopers later deployed a tire deflation device, slowing the vehicle. The driver continued fleeing before the vehicle eventually left the roadway.

Both occupants then fled from the vehicle on foot.

The OSHP Aviation Section tracked the suspects from the air into Delaware County and directed troopers on the ground to their location. The suspects were taken into custody without further incident.

Troopers searching the scene located two bags—one inside the vehicle and another that had been discarded during the pursuit.

The bags contained 27 stolen firearms and a stolen taser, according to the Patrol.

Arrested were Martell Dawson, 25, of Columbus, and Andez Henry, 18, of Columbus.

Both were taken to the Ashland County Jail and charged with receiving stolen property and failure to comply.

The investigation remains ongoing.
