WAVERLY, Ohio — Pike County homeowners who qualify for the Homestead Exemption but are not yet enrolled have until Friday, Oct. 30, to apply for a one-time property tax credit created under Ohio House Bill 479, the Pike County Auditor’s Office said.
Homeowners already receiving the Homestead Exemption do not need to do anything. The auditor’s office will automatically process their eligibility for the one-time credit, and there is no need to reapply or contact the office.
To qualify, a homeowner must own and occupy the home as a primary residence and meet one of three requirements: be 65 or older, or turn 65 by Dec. 31, 2026, with a combined modified adjusted gross income of $41,000 or less for the homeowner and a spouse, based on 2025 income; be permanently and totally disabled, with the same $41,000 income limit; or be a disabled veteran meeting the 100% service-connected disability requirements. There is no income limit for qualifying disabled veterans.
Applications must reach the Pike County Auditor’s Office by Friday, Oct. 30, so the office has time to process them for the one-time credit. Under HB 479, county auditors are required to report eligible properties to the Ohio Department of Taxation by Nov. 1.
The Oct. 30 deadline applies only to the one-time credit. Applications for the regular Homestead Exemption may still be filed under the normal application deadlines, the auditor’s office said.
Questions can be directed to the Pike County Auditor’s Office at 740-947-4125.
