PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Pickaway-Ross Career & Technology Center is one of five founding partners in ShawneeWORKS, a new partnership between Shawnee State University and five south-central Ohio career and technical centers that the university says will build a pipeline of high school and adult learners for the region’s technical workforce.
The partnership expands dual credit and College Credit Plus opportunities between the partner schools, gives career-center graduates a direct entry into the workforce, and streamlines admission into Shawnee State’s two- and four-year applied technical degree programs, according to the announcement. Shawnee State said students at the five centers can begin taking advantage of the ShawneeWORKS educational benefits this year.
The other founding partners are the Scioto County Career Technical Center, the Pike County Career Technology Center, Buckeye Hills Career Center and Southern Hills Joint Vocational School District.
“Demand for graduates with applied technical skills is exploding throughout Ohio,” Shawnee State President Eric Andrew Braun said. “This new partnership is a natural extension of the focus shared by Shawnee State University and our region’s outstanding career technical centers to provide students with the education and experience they need for the jobs they seek.”
“As a Career Technical Education Superintendent, it is refreshing to partner with Shawnee State University, an institution that truly understands and values career technology education,” said Pike County Career Technology Center Superintendent Eric Meredith.
The partners said students and employers will realize lower educational costs and a faster time to completion through the initiative. More information is posted by the university at shawnee.edu/shawnee-works.
