A Central Townships Joint Fire District fire apparatus rolled over Monday morning on State Route 56 in Madison County, and its driver was taken to a Columbus trauma center, according to the fire district.
Grass Fighter 293 was traveling southbound on State Route 56 at approximately 55 mph at about 8:50 a.m. when its right front tire left the roadway, the district said in a press release. As the driver attempted to steer the apparatus back onto the roadway, the vehicle lost control and rolled multiple times before coming to rest on its roof in the roadway.
The driver, a district employee whose name is being withheld, was wearing a seat belt, according to the district. The employee was evaluated at the scene and transported by the Madison County Emergency Medical District to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in Columbus, a Level I trauma center, for further evaluation and treatment. The driver’s condition was not released.
“The Central Townships Joint Fire District’s primary concern at this time is the health, safety, and well-being of our employee,” the district said. “We are grateful for the emergency personnel who responded to the incident and provided assistance.”
The district said additional information about the circumstances of the crash will be released as it becomes available, and it asked that the privacy of the employee and their family be maintained.
