CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Six people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a five-vehicle chain-reaction crash on Western Avenue, Wednesday evening, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened around 5:32 p.m., troopers said. A 2014 Ford F-150 driven by Melissa Maxwell, 18, of Chillicothe was traveling southeast on U.S. 50 when it struck the rear of a stopped 2000 Dodge Durango driven by Bobbi Wellman, 43, of Greenfield.
The initial impact set off a chain reaction involving three more stopped vehicles: a 2008 Ford F-150 driven by a juvenile from Chillicothe, a 2011 Honda Odyssey driven by Zachary Thompson, 34, of Chillicothe, and a 2008 Ford Taurus driven by another juvenile from Chillicothe.
Maxwell, Wellman, the juvenile driving the Taurus and three passengers were all transported to Adena Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, according to the patrol.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Scioto Township Fire and EMS, Union Township Fire and EMS, Green Township EMS, VA Fire and EMS and the Ross County Sheriff’s Office. U.S. 50 was shut down for about 20 minutes.
