CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Drug Enforcement Administration will host its 31st National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24, giving residents a chance to safely dispose of unused medications.
Collection sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with more than 4,400 sites nationwide run alongside more than 4,300 law enforcement partners, the DEA said. Sites accept tablets, capsules, patches and sealed liquid medications. Syringes, sharps and illicit drugs are not accepted.
“Since 2010, Take Back Day has helped Americans remove more than twenty million pounds of unneeded medications from their homes,” DEA Administrator Terry Cole said. “You are preventing potentially addictive medications from falling into the wrong hands — a small step that can save lives.”
Residents can find a nearby collection site at www.DEATakeBack.com. More than 15,300 pharmacies, hospitals and businesses also offer year-round disposal, and many police departments maintain permanent drop boxes, according to the DEA.
