President Donald Trump said the project would create thousands of jobs, though additional details about the proposed facility were not immediately available.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — President Donald Trump announced Friday that Bayer plans to invest $2.2 billion in a new pharmaceutical manufacturing campus near Columbus, describing the project as a major expansion of domestic drug production.
Trump disclosed the project in a post on Truth Social while traveling to Ohio. He said the proposed campus would support “thousands of jobs” in advanced manufacturing, scientific research, construction and related fields.
“Bayer just announced a brand new, 2.2 Billion Dollar Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Campus near Columbus,” Trump wrote.
Few additional details about the project were immediately available, including the exact location of the proposed campus, a construction timeline, the number of permanent jobs expected or what pharmaceutical products would be manufactured at the facility.
Trump credited his administration’s pharmaceutical trade policies with encouraging companies to move or expand manufacturing operations in the United States. He said pharmaceutical tariffs have helped generate more than $600 billion in new domestic investment, a figure that could not immediately be independently verified from the information released with the announcement.
The president also connected the announcement to his administration’s efforts to reduce prescription drug prices and encourage pharmaceutical companies to manufacture products in the United States.
“Build in America, hire American workers, and price drugs for American patients fairly,” Trump wrote.
Bayer had not provided additional project details in the material available at the time of publication.
This is a developing story. J News Network will update this report as additional information becomes available.
