LANGSVILLE, Ohio — The Salem Township Volunteer Fire Department has received a $12,000 federal grant to buy automated external defibrillator equipment, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced.
USDA Rural Development Ohio State Director Charles Tassell awarded the Community Facilities grant to the department on Thursday, Oct. 29, in Langsville, joined by U.S. Rep. Dave Taylor, according to the department.
The grant will pay for automated external defibrillator equipment to strengthen the department’s emergency response, the USDA said. The equipment provides assistance during cardiac emergencies and serves a township population of more than 900 residents.
“Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, Rural Development is supporting America’s first responders,” Tassell said. “The firefighters and Emergency Medical Services paramedics of Salem Township save lives every day, and this grant will help them continue their vital work.”
Taylor, in a statement Friday, said he helped the department secure the grant and said it covers new AEDs and essential firefighter turnout gear.
The Community Facilities program offers direct loans, loan guarantees and grants for essential public services and facilities in rural communities, according to the USDA.
