ODOT traffic cameras down statewide; vendor working on fix, no ETA given

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Public traffic camera feeds across Ohio went dark Friday during a statewide outage of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s camera image server, cutting off drivers’ ability to check road conditions in Toledo, Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, Cincinnati and beyond.

ODOT confirmed Friday afternoon that the outage is a known issue, telling J News Network: “It’s a known issue. The vendor has been working on it since this morning. I’ve not been given an estimated time of restoration.”

The agency stressed that its internal operations are unaffected: “The cameras are working for our Traffic Management Center, so our operations have not been impacted.”

Testing by J News Network on Friday showed the department’s public image server returning errors for every camera checked across the state’s major metro areas, while camera location metadata continued to load normally — a sign the cameras themselves are functioning and the failure is limited to the public image feeds.

There is no word yet on when the public feeds will be restored.

Editor’s note: God’s Eye Ohio, J News Network’s live traffic and weather platform, pulls its camera images straight from ODOT’s public feed — so its camera tiles are dark during this outage. Everything else is working normally, including real-time severe weather alerts, NWS warning polygons, live radar, highway incidents, and emergency aircraft tracking.

UPDATE: The public camera feed is back in operation. You can once again access ODOT camera feeds using our God’s Eye Ohio app.
