PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Portsmouth City Health Department is encouraging women to sign up for two free screening programs during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, saying those who qualify should call now to schedule.
In a social media post, the department’s clinic said it is enrolling eligible women in the Ohio Breast and Cervical Cancer Project, or BCCP, and in WISEWOMAN. Both programs run through the Ohio Department of Health.
BCCP covers no-cost breast and cervical cancer screenings and follow-up testing, plus a navigation service that helps participants find providers, book appointments, sort out insurance questions and connect with community resources. Statewide, it is open to Ohio women 21 and older who are uninsured or underinsured and whose household income is at or below 300% of the federal poverty level, according to the state health department.
WISEWOMAN adds heart-health screening for women 35 to 64 who meet the same income and insurance rules: blood pressure checks, blood tests for cholesterol and blood sugar, and optional coaching to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke and diabetes.
“Your health is worth making time for,” the health department said.
Women can check eligibility and book by calling the clinic at 740-353-8863 or stopping in person, the department said.
