Driver in fatal Fayette County crash sentenced to five years in prison

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — A driver convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide in a February crash that killed a passenger will serve five years in prison, part of a slate of September felony sentencings announced by the Fayette County prosecutor’s office.

Jaymon Flaugher drew a mandatory five-year prison term for the third-degree felony charge on Sept. 21, the prosecutor’s office said. Flaugher was behind the wheel in the Feb. 1 wreck in which a passenger died. Because the sentence is mandatory, he is not eligible for early or judicial release. Fayette County Sheriff’s records show he was booked June 13 on aggravated vehicular homicide charges.

In the same round of dispositions, Dylan Campbell was sentenced to five to six-and-a-half years in prison — three of them mandatory — on drug possession charges ranging from second- to fifth-degree felonies, according to the prosecutor’s office. Judge David Bender ordered the term to run consecutively with a three-to-four-and-a-half-year Highland County sentence Campbell received earlier this year for drug trafficking, bringing his combined total to eight to 11 years with six years mandatory.

Ryan Byrd received 18 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender, a third-degree felony. Prosecutors said Byrd told the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office he was becoming homeless but never completed the steps the law requires to register as a homeless individual.

From the Sept. 8 dispositions, Dustin Pruitt was convicted on seven counts of violating a protection order after a grand jury indictment and placed on community control with a suspended seven-year prison term and an order to have no contact with the victim, the prosecutor’s office said. Ty Brannon was convicted of third-degree felony domestic violence based on two or more prior convictions and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
