COLUMBUS, Ohio — A former utility clerk for the village of Ashley was sentenced to 180 days in jail after pleading guilty to stealing more than $70,000 in utility payments, according to the Ohio Auditor of State.
Allison McClain also was ordered to pay $153,333.72 in restitution and audit costs and must complete four years of community control under a sentence handed down Monday in Delaware County Common Pleas Court.
The Auditor of State’s Special Investigations Unit began investigating after the village identified discrepancies in its utility deposits.
Investigators determined McClain stole utility payments totaling more than $70,000 between August 2022 and May 2024.
McClain pleaded guilty in July to felony charges of theft in office and telecommunications fraud.
As a result of her conviction, McClain is barred from holding public office.
She also must make minimum monthly payments toward the restitution owed.
The Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office appointed an attorney from the Auditor of State’s Special Investigations Unit to serve as special prosecutor in the case.
